David Dann
Renowned record producer and owner of Independent record label, Mind of a Genius. His signings have gone on to win multiple Grammy Awards as well as the label amassing over 1 Billion streams total.
David grew up in Los Angeles as a DJ and also producing for local artists in his late teens which then turned into an international career of his own before turning it in to start his own record company.
Dann architected a platform to foster artistic development, and it ignited the careers of ZHU, Gallant, Klangstof, THEY., Kwaye, and more. Among many milestones, ZHU’s “Faded” notched the label’s first 2014 GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Dance Recording” and Gallant’s 2016 full-length debut album Ology earned a nomination for “Best Urban Contemporary Album,” while the alternative R&B maverick and acclaimed Dutch-Norwegian band Klangstof both turned heads at Coachella 2017 and also earned a dutch Grammy.
Meanwhile, Hypebeast, Complex, and Revolt touted Dann as a true tastemaker in extensive features as he simultaneously orchestrated a high-profile deal with Warner Bros. Records.
Reflecting the diverse roster, it’s no surprise the moniker “Mind Of A Genius” actually originated on the founder’s iPod at the age of 16. His own connection to music began in a similarly pure manner. Classically trained in piano, he describes the instrument as his “gateway drug.” He traded in the ivories for the decks, becoming a producer and DJ at 16. Between high school and college, he gained an international following through gigs everywhere from South America to the U.S. and a hit in Brazil. With an artist mindset, he made the jump to founding his label. Now, it forever serves as a home to the kinds of acts who can help change the lives of their listeners through their profound messaging through their music.
