Scholarships for International Students

The Laurel Hummel Scholarship for International Students was established at UCLA Extension in 2005 by the Hummel family to honor Mrs. Laurel Hummel, who created the first International Student Office at UCLA Extension in the 1970s.

The scholarships seek to foster multicultural perspectives in the classroom reflecting today’s global society. Scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated academic achievement, interpersonal communication skills, or unique abilities that advance multicultural perspectives in the UCLA Extension classroom.

Every quarter, the committee awards three scholarships valuing $1,650 for each recipient. Scholarship funds may only be applied to offset course fees at UCLA Extension and must be used within two years of award notification.

Eligibility

  • You must be a citizen of a foreign country or holder of dual citizenship (United States + Foreign Country)
  • Have full-time F-1 visa student status at UCLA Extension (enrolled in 12 units per quarter)
  • Have completed at least 12 units with grades of C or better within your UCLA Extension certificate program
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 within your certificate program
  • Be in good academic standing at the time of application, having followed all regulations for F-1 students as well as all policies of UCLA Extension
