Alfonso Berumen

Alfonso Berumen

Dr. Alfonso Berumen is an experienced Data Science and Analytics instructor and Business Analytics consultant. While he began teaching at UCLA Extension in April 2018 in the Data Science Certificate Program, Dr. Berumen has been with Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Business School since late 2019. As a full-time faculty and Practitioner of Decision Sciences, the field of Quantitative methods for decision-making, he has taught a number of courses across the Doctoral program, MBA program, and specialized Masters programs. He also serves on the advisory committees for the Master of Science in Business Analytics and Part-time MBA programs to assist in the design, innovation, and delivery of course offerings and curriculum.

 

Prior to a career in academia, Dr. Berumen was a managing consultant at Resolution Economics for over 10 years. As part of consulting projects, Berumen has provided data-driven economic, statistical, and analytical support to law firms, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private companies operating in a wide range of industries. He now serves as an independent analytics consultant and primarily assists small-to-medium sized business with their data analytics projects.

 

Dr. Berumen has an applied knowledge in Quantitative methods for both academic research and professional settings. In terms of Data Science and Analytics tools, he has extensive experience using R, Python, SPSS, SAS, and SQL to process and analyze data as well as apply various modelling techniques. Further, Berumen has taught numerous Data Science and Analytics courses at the graduate-level with R/R Studio and Python. In addition, he has expertise in leveraging Data Visualization tools including Tableau and Microsoft Power BI. As a result of his experience, he was recently featured in the LinkedIn Learning course: A Day In The Life of A Data Scientist.

 

In terms of education, he has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Occidental College, Master of Science in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University, Master of Business Administration from the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
