Get the credit you deserve.

Select UCLA Extension courses may qualify for academic or continuing education credit, the details of which are outlined below.

Academic credit is measured in quarter units. To convert quarter units to semester units, multiply by two-thirds. A calculated grade point average (GPA) will only appear in relation to classes taken as part of a Certificate program. Ad hoc course work in continuing education at this institution is not subject to GPA calculation.

Continuing Education Units (CEU) represents a measure of contact time in post-graduate level courses offered in the 800 series and may be accepted by state agencies and professional societies to fulfill licensure or certification requirements with a finding of satisfactory participation. Grades are not issued for CEU-bearing courses in accordance with standards established by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training. Students who satisfactorily participate are awarded 1 CEU for every 10 contact hours of instruction.

UCLA Extension is a provider for a variety of specific professional continuing education activities. For example, certain business-related courses offer credit that may be applied toward the education requirement for State of California Certified Public Accountants re-licensure, while other educational activities may be applied to the Board of Registered Nursing, California Board of Psychology and others.

UCLA Extension is a provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) units as approved by the State Bar of California.

Select UCLA Extension courses qualify for academic credit at UCLA and other colleges and universities. All course numbers on this site prefixed with an "X" can lead to the award of academic credit upon satisfactory completion. Refer to the course numbers outlined below for additional detail. The transferability of credit to a particular program at another school, college, or university is determined solely by that program's governing body. Having full course descriptions in addition to transcripts can inform such decisions. Check with the receiving institution for transferability of courses prior to enrolling.

Credit Options

The student’s work will be evaluated by the instructor using letter grades. Courses required for certificate program curriculum must be taken for a letter grade. If you wish to change your credit option, please submit your request to studentrecords@uclaextension.edu before the administration of the final exam or project and before the last class meeting. A change in credit status may not be approved for a student who has sat for a final examination or submitted the final paper or project.
