Simultaneous Interpretation I: Chinese/English

This course introduces students to the basic skills and techniques of simultaneous interpretation by practicing shadowing (repeating everything a speaker says verbatim) and dual tasking (concurrently performing two different tasks, such as oral shadowing while writing down something unrelated).

- Learn to shadow the source language at 115 wpm while writing down numbers 1 to 100
About this course:
This course introduces students to the craft and discipline of simultaneous interpretation. Students learn the basic skills and techniques of simultaneous interpretation by practicing shadowing (repeating everything a speaker says verbatim) and dual tasking (concurrently performing two different tasks, such as oral shadowing while writing down something unrelated). Students are introduced to various topics, including administrative hearings, current affairs, economics, business and finance, legal affairs, and such common court scenarios as rights advisement and pleas.
Prerequisites
Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English and admission into Interpretation/Translation Certificate: Chinese/English.
