This course is the conclusion of general chemistry and introduces organic chemistry. This course is geared towards pre-medical and pre-health students and is the second course in the general and organic chemistry series.
Apply chemical principles in general and organic chemistry to the physical and biological world
Become familiar with chemical notations and conventions
Understand principles and laws of phase changes, thermochemistry, and thermodynamics
Identify the general classes and naming of organic molecules
Use molecular modeling software to illustrate molecular structures and their relative energies
About this course:
This course covers phase changes; thermochemistry; first, second and third laws of thermodynamics; free energy changes; electrochemistry and its role as an energy source; chemical kinetics, including catalysis, reaction mechanisms and enzymes; coordination compounds; general classes and naming of organic molecules; structure, conformations and relative energies of organic molecules; application of thermodynamics and kinetics to organic and biochemical reactions; and use of molecular modeling software to illustrate molecular structures and their relative energies. Transferable for UC credit.
