About this course:
Cancer accounts for nearly one in four deaths in the United States, and the cost to individuals and society is staggering at $217 billion each year. While billions of dollars are also spent on funding research that will help determine the causes, development, and progression of cancer, there is much more to learn in order to prevent and treat cancer effectively. This course explores the molecular and cellular biology of cancer, as well as reviews the current advances in therapy. The course is divided into two parts. The first part examines the nature and causes of cancer and provides an overview of important signaling mechanisms, and the second part emphasizes how cancer metastasizes and advances in treatment.
