About This Course

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is arguably the most famous prodigy in the history of classical music, having established himself as an accomplished performer on keyboard and violin and a budding composer as early as age five. However, his musical legacy extends far beyond the mythos of these early years as he developed into one of the most significant composers of the 18th century. In this course, we explore the expansive repertoire not covered in our previous course, including Mozart’s symphonies from his formative years alongside the sophisticated Haffner and Prague symphonies, as well as various concertos and works for diverse instruments. We also examine his varied divertimenti, serenades for winds, A Musical Joke, and we will return to Mozart’s pivotal role as a dramatist as we listen to excerpts from Idomeneo, The Magic Flute, and Così fan tutte.
