Medical Assistant Fundamentals of Practice & Lab: Administrative Skills

This UCLA Medical Assistant Program course is the third in a 3-part series. It prepares students for a successful transition into their externships.
What you can learn.
- Experience high-fidelity patient simulations and clinical rotations at an ambulatory practice site
- Identify quality assurance practices in health care, basic principles of first aid, and responding to an emergency in the ambulatory care setting
- Understand and practice various office procedures including performing EKGs and wound care
About this course:
This course will focus on administrative functions in the role of a Medical Assistant including appointment and scheduling methods, introduction to the electronic medical record and practice management system, third party reimbursement and basic finance practices. Student will practice various administrative functions including managing appointments, utilizing an EMR, and creating, organizing, and maintaining a medical record, interpreting insurance information and verifying insurance eligibility and pre-authorization. Students will also receive an introduction to procedural and diagnostic coding.
