Instructor Statement:

In simplest terms, I believe that being a writer is a high calling and I love sharing my knowledge, writing secrets and shortcuts and insider industry experience with the next generation of creative filmmakers. As a seasoned screenwriter with 20 years of experience, I have had the privilege of working on a wide-variety of projects across different genres, including a produced feature for Sony Screen Gems, an award-winning CBS television series, as well as children’s projects and novels. Over the years, I have honed my skills in crafting compelling narratives, developing rich characters and constructing engaging dialogue. I am deeply committed to the art of storytelling and have a keen understanding of the nuances of the screenwriting craft. What sets me apart as an instructor is my enthusiasm and ability to connect with students and foster a creative and collaborative learning environment. Since 2018, I have taught MFA screenwriting for the USC Cinematic Arts department. During this time, I have guided students in exploring their creativity, developing their unique voices and understanding the practical aspects of the film industry. My teaching philosophy centers around providing constructive feedback, encouraging critical thinking, sharing the nuts and bolts of effective screenwriting and nurturing a supportive writer’s room-like community of aspiring screenwriters.
