Instructor Bio:

Television comedy writer/co-producer and WGA member, whose credits include Family Matters, Eve, Moesha, The Parkers, House of Payne and Girlfriends. Her other credits include the animated Disney series, The Proud Family, and she most recently sold the pilot Three Sisters (M.O.W), to Hallmark/Crown Media.

Instructor Statement:

Anyone with an imagination is a writer. As an instructor, I challenge my students to turn an idea into a compelling story, with a beginning, middle and ending, using a beat sheet to follow story structure. I encourage them to tap into their life experiences, then imagine themselves as the protagonist in the story, asking two fundamental questions. What does the protagonist want, and what must be fixed in the character, that stands in the way of them achieving their goal? In every scene the stakes are raised, peeling back the onion, finding new layers in the human emotion and how those emotions advance the story. The story comes out of character, and great stories are born through characters. I want to help my students to find their voice, and shape the story that they want to tell.
