This intensive, studio-based course integrates technical mastery with creative development and visual storytelling in contemporary digital photography. Students gain full control of camera systems and photographic variables while developing a personal visual language through structured assignments, critique, and project-based learning. Instruction emphasizes manual camera operation, RAW image capture, professional digital workflow, lighting (natural, continuous, and artificial), composition, and advanced post-production using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Through portraiture, still life, environmental photography, and narrative-driven assignments, students explore both commercial and fine art applications of photography. The course culminates in a self-directed photographic project or essay that demonstrates technical proficiency, conceptual clarity, and creative vision. Designed for intermediate to advanced learners, this course is ideal for students seeking to deepen their photographic practice, build a cohesive body of work, or prepare for advanced study or professional application.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of manual camera controls and basic familiarity with Lightroom or Photoshop. For those new to photography, ART X 450.33 Introduction to Creative Photography is suggested.
