About this course:
In its wider definition, the term "abstraction" describes art that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way--keeping only an allusion to the original natural subject. Encouraging students to see in new ways, this course focuses on translating visual representation into abstraction. This studio-based course considers historical models while focusing on the idea of abstracting form and content from observation of the visible world. Students approach the fundamental methods, issues, and concepts of abstraction through drawing exercises using charcoal, pencil, pastel, and water-based mediums to investigate the spatial dynamics and pictorial elements of abstraction. Various papers and surfaces also are explored. Imaginative direction and personal expression are encouraged. Appropriate for students of all levels.Corporate Education
